H&R Block goes for health care in Arizona
Kansas City, Mo.-based H&R Block is getting into the Affordable Care Act — starting with Arizona, which could become a model for the rest of the country.
You might wonder why a tax preparation company would become involved in helping people understand the intricacies of buying health insurance on the Arizona Marketplace.
But remember, the Internal Revenue Service will be the agency that ensures American citizens buy health coverage, or risk being fined $95 or more. Who knows the IRS better than H&R Block?
Doug Tapp , who has 30 years of health care industry experience, was selected to lead the company’s new Health Services Group.
During the past nine months, he has hired about 50 people to answer questions about the new federal law, which requires individuals to purchase their health coverage.
“We are starting the program here in Phoenix,” he said. “You can come to about 30 or 40 offices here in Phoenix and sit down with licensed health professionals and have a discussion around what’s available on the Marketplace in Arizona.”
